Longreach Regional Council Childcare Services provides a diverse range of high quality children’s services that meet community needs. Council provides childcare services for families who live, work or study in the region and beyond.

Council manages the operation of two childcare programs – Longreach Childcare Centre and Longreach Outside School Hours Care. Children are cared for in safe and secure environments and provided with developmentally appropriate educational programs for children aged six weeks to twelve years. Care at the Childcare Centre is offered on a full time and part time basis from 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

A dedicated team of early childhood professionals are employed to educate and nurture all children in care, with qualifications and experience in Early Childhood Education and Care.

The Centre provides carefully planned educational programs and environments that are based on the developmental needs and interests of each child and the culture and values of the families who use the Centre. Challenging and stimulating indoor and outdoor experiences are incorporated into the program.

Our goals are:

  • To provide responsive, healthy and safe environments;
  • To develop each child’s sense of belonging and wellbeing;
  • To create respect through effective interactions and building positive relationships between educators and staff with children and families;
  • To assist each strong and capable child to learn at his or her own pace and to encourage ownership over their learning;
  • To encourage children to think for themselves by providing choice and open ended experiences to problem solve and utilise self-help skills;
  • To develop children’s creativity, self-expression and knowledge through the creative arts, literacy and numeracy, science and technology, cultural diversity and environmental awareness;
  • To assist children develop their confidence in their physical abilities by providing a variety of active and passive play experiences;
  • To maintain an environment of inclusion, free of religious, racial or gender bias, stereotype or prejudice;
  • To encourage, support and build effective partnerships with families and the community.
